As if being a student-athlete is not busy enough, juggling time between classes, games, practices and studying, fifth year women’s basketball star Stephanie Kleysen is taking it upon herself to organize a fundraiser for a project that is ever so close to her heart.

For the past two summers Kleysen has had the privilege to work and volunteer at Community Venture here in Winnipeg. Community Venture is an agency that is a part of the Salvation Army which provides developmental day programming, residential transportation, outreach and respite services to adults living with intellectual disabilities.  “This program challenges members to thrive by promoting active participation in community and supporting choices that increase independence and develop natural talents”.

Kleysen is organizing a fundraising event that will take place on Saturday, January 24th when the Wesmen Basketball teams take on the Brandon Bobcats. (Women at 2:00 p.m., Men at 4:00 p.m.) in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium (Duckworth Centre). Aside from exciting basketball action, there will be an added bonus, a special half time event at both games which will feature Winnipeg Blue Bombers players taking part in a “Shoot Out”.

Tickets are only $10.00 with 100% of proceeds donated to the Salvation Army Community Venture Program. Donations will also be accepted (tax receipts available upon request).
