Wanda Koop Donates Artwork

Painting to be Raffled in Support of the University's Film Program

Internationally celebrated Winnipeg artist Wanda Koop, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by The University of Winnipeg in June 2002, has made an extraordinarily generous donation to the University. A video artist herself, she strongly supports our new and highly successful Film Program, housed in our Department of Theatre and Drama. In order to help the program buy much-needed equipment that will help the Department to meet the increasing enrolment demands in its film courses, Wanda Koop has donated a well-known and valuable painting to the University.

The painting, the well-known Tear Series, Panel 3, 1997, has been officially appraised at $16,000. With Wanda’s approval and cooperation, the University has organized a lottery – 500 tickets at $50.00 each – with the first $16,000 to go to the Film Program and all other proceeds to cover the incidental costs of the event and to help renovate the University’s art gallery, Gallery 1C03.

The draw will take place in mid-October 2004. Please help us support The University of Winnipeg’s Filmmaking Program and Gallery 1C03. For tickets, contact Carole Anderson at 204.786.9490, or by email at c.anderson@uwinnipeg.ca.
