Kevin Lamoureux, UWinnipeg’s AVP-Indigenous Affairs, appears in the documentary “First Contact” — which airs in three parts on APTN, from September 11 – 13. The series follows a group of six Canadians on a 28-day journey that challenges their perceptions about Indigenous people.

Narrated by George Stromboulopoulos, the show explores indigenous culture in Canada and takes the participants into Indigenous communities in Winnipeg, Nunavut, Alberta, Northern Ontario, and the coast of BC

Lamoureux invited the group into his home on the first night of their journey, where they met and spent time with him, his wife, and children. He and his family appear in the documentary.

“I wanted to show them kindness and generosity as they begin their journey towards reconciliation,” said Lamoureux. “Education is a big part of reconciliation and I hope it was a rewarding opportunity for them to learn and share with my family.”

Lamoureux will also be part of a panel discussion following a special screening taking place at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights on September 11.
