UWinnipeg receives grant to strengthen diversity and inclusion on campus

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg has been granted an Equity Diversity and Inclusion Institutional Capacity-Building Grant valued at $355,900 over two years. UWinnipeg’s Looking Inward and Forward to Improve Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Outcomes is a project designed to make UWinnipeg a diverse and inclusive campus for everyone.

“UWinnipeg is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion,” said UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Annette Trimbee.  “UWinnipeg’s mission and strategic directions identifies inclusion, equality, diversity and reconciliation as important values. We are very pleased to receive this support from the federal government, which will accelerate our progress.

UWinnipeg’s project will examine systemic barriers and create opportunities for people to become involved in developing UWinnipeg’s approach to EDI. This knowledge and experience will position UWinnipeg to refine its institution-wide EDI plan. The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Institutional Capacity-Building Grant fosters EDI in the Canadian post-secondary research enterprise through a focus on the barriers that impede the career advancement, recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups. These groups include women, Indigenous peoples, members of racialized communities, people with disabilities and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
