Students can access specific scholarship and bursary supports

WINNIPEG, MB – As we approach Remembrance Day during an autumn that has shaken and saddened Canadians, The University of Winnipeg stands in solidarity with military families and reminds students of those who have served that there are unique financial supports available through several scholarships and bursaries.

In October, Cpl. Nathan Cirillo was killed by a gunman in Ottawa while standing guard at the National War Memorial. Sergeant-at-Arms Kevin Vickers ultimately took down the attacker on Parliament Hill. Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent was killed and another soldier injured when they were run down by a vehicle south of Montreal.

“This Remembrance Day we’ll bow our heads more deeply to reflect on the true meaning of democracy and duty,” said Dr. Annette Trimbee, UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor. “Our shared values as Canadians – respect for human rights and dignity, compassion and courage – unite us most especially during times of tragedy.”
