For the third consecutive year, The University of Winnipeg Golden Key Chapter (UW-GK) has been awarded the highest recognition by the International Golden Key Honour Society — the Key Chapter Award.

This recognition was publicized at the Golden Key International Summit this past June in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is awarded annually to chapters that exceed the expectations rooted in the Golden Key pillars of academics, leadership, and service.

Each fall, UW-GK welcomes new academic achievers who meet the academic eligibility standard of performing in the top 15 per cent of the university student body.

This past year, many of these members demonstrated outstanding devotion to the chapter’s community service initiatives. They volunteered at 11 separate Canadian Blood Service and four Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg events and fulfilled numerous commitments with Let’s Talk Science, Newcomers Employment and Education Development Services (N.E.E.D.S.) Inc., and Siloam Mission. This year we have added the Canadian Red Cross and Jack.org to our service initiatives.

In regards to academics, UW-GK partnered with The Princeton Review to offer campus-wide MCAT and LSAT seminars free of charge to UWinnipeg students.

The current UW-GK tutoring services, performed in conjunction with UWinnipeg’s Faculty of Business and Economics, saw an increase in tutor-and-tutee sessions over the previous year. The chapter continues its efforts to raise funds for its three scholarships: chapter, in-course, and convocation.

Each year, the chapter recognizes individuals from the UWinnipeg community who exemplify a passion for learning and community service. At its New Member Recognition Event last November, two honorary members were inducted into the Golden Key Society, namely, Dr. Danny Blair, Professor and Director of Science at the Prairie Climate Centre, and Colin Russell, Instructor and UWinnipeg Registrar.

Students interested in UW-GK are invited to a new member information session on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm in 2M70. There also will be a New Member Recognition Event on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
