UWinnipeg Brings Campus to 3D Life

picture of 3d-tourWINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is the first school in Canada using 3D interactive technology that enables potential students to fly around campus in a virtual visit. Students are able to zoom to 13 locations – including the AnX, Asper Centre for Theatre & Film, Buhler Centre, Duckworth Centre, Helen Betty Osborne Building, McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence, the proposed Multi-Purpose Field House Health and Wellness Complex, Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, UWSA Daycare Centre and Wesley Hall.

The 3D interactive technology was designed and developed by Winnipeg-based Whirlwind Media Group.

“Students today are techno-savvy and this provides them with a new and engaging tool to experience what our campus has to offer,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, UWinnipeg, “Increasingly, we are attracting students, faculty and researchers to UWinnipeg from rural and Northern communities as well as from around the world. Now they can “visit” us anytime, from anywhere. We are committed to staying ahead of the technological curve.”

There are two features that make the Whirlwind 3D technology unique.

“First, its ability to be interactive – most other 3D online technologies do not allow the viewer to interact. Secondly, it does not require additional software. It uses Flash technology that is integrated in 99.9% of all existing computers. Our patent-pending 3D application is quick, easy to use, and truly engaging,” said Ron Lamoureux, Whirlwind Media Group.

Whirlwind’s 3D application offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves within campus and will include future animations and video clips.
