University of Winnipeg Professor Reaches 100th Research Publication

Dr. Chris Wiebe

Chemistry Professor and Canada Research Chair Christopher Wiebe has reached another career milestone. He has now  authored/co-authored 100 scientific publications. Over half of these research papers were published since his arrival in 2009 at UWinnipeg. Wiebe has also worked with some stellar students who he says contributed to his success in reaching this milestone.

“I am very fortunate to have reached this goal of mine,” said Wiebe.  “The support here (at UWinnipeg), through the Canada Research Chair program, National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Canada Foundation for Innovation, and the Canadian Institution for Advanced Research (CFIR) , has resulted in a very fruitful research environment.  And of course, the students are among the best I have ever worked with.  They are the secret of my success.”

Wiebe has had two Vanier Scholars in his research group over the last five years (Harlyn Silverstein and Alannah Hallas), in addition to many other students that have contributed to the PRIME lab in the Richardson College for the Environment.  He was also recently made a member of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) – only the second Manitoban to do so.  CIFAR enables enhanced research collaborations with many top scholars across the globe.

“It’s hard to believe that, years ago, I taught Chris here in my own Advanced Calculus class,” said Dr. James Currie, Dean of Science. “Now, he has completed the circle, and provides the ‘undergraduate edge’ to the many students in his own courses, or those who work in his research lab and have published with him.”
