The University of Winnipeg Unveils Off-Campus Housing Registry

WINNIPEG—On July 14 2003, the Department of Housing and Student Life at The University of Winnipeg will unveil its new Off-Campus Housing Registry.

With an increased student population and growing business and residential activity in the downtown, students are finding it increasingly difficult to secure suitable housing in the area. As spaces within the University’s affordable off-campus housing fill up quickly, the creation of the University’s Off-Campus Housing Registry provides students with even more housing options.

The Registry links landlords in the neighbouring community with students looking to lease and/or sublet in the downtown area. Properties are inspected by the University’s Housing & Student Life department, and, if approved, are listed online athttp://housing.uwinnipeg.ca. The for-fee Listings remain posted online and throughout the campus until the vacancy has been filled. Students can also find the Registry listing at key locations throughout the main campus and within The Uniter, the official publication of The University of Winnipeg Student Association.

Interested landlords are encouraged to contact the Off-Campus Housing Coordinator to schedule an appointment for their property to be inspected (telephone: 786.9139 or email: d.thomas@uwinnipeg.ca).

The University of Winnipeg, located in the heart of the city, is a compact, caring community committed to access and excellence in the arts and sciences. Ranked by Maclean’s magazine as one of Canada’s top four undergrad universities, The University of Winnipeg is home to more than 8,000 full- and part-time students.
