The Summer In The City Basketball League Is Currently under way for a third consecutive summer. The league attracts over 60 kids from ages 10-17.

The University of Winnipeg has been attracting more than 60 participants ranging in age from 10-17 this summer as the University of Winnipeg plays host to the Summer in the City Basketball League for the third consecutive year.

The league runs every Sunday through August from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium at the Duckworth Centre. The league is sponsored by the Inner City Junior Wesmen program and there is no cost to participate.

” It is great to see so many young Inner City athletes coming out to participate, said Grant Richter, University of Winnipeg’s Director of Athletic Program Development and Community Liaison. We are thrilled to be able to provide an opportunity fo players to improve their skills under the direction of an all-time Wesmen great like Erfan”.

Erfan Nasajpour, former University of Winnipeg Wesmen All Star guard for five years, now playing professionally in the Iranian Basketball Super League, will be joining in the fun for the third consecutive summer. Every Sunday, he is providing coaching instruction and mentoring players.

“Being involved with community programs gives me a chance to give back and hopefully change lives forever. There is no better feeling than giving back. I grew up in downtown Winnipeg for 15 years, and I know what it is like for kids who want to play but may not have a gym or a playground to play on”, said Nasajpour.

The action continues every Sunday during the months of July and August.
