The University of Winnipeg community is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic violence and loss of life that occurred in Orlando this past weekend. Though much is still unknown, one thing is certain: UWinnipeg stands united with our friends and family in the LGBTTQ* community — as was demonstrated earlier this month during Pride celebrations, and especially so at this troubling time.

Today the rainbow flag will be raised again on our campus front lawn. This gesture is a sign of respect for those who lost their lives and to reiterate our support for the LGBTTQ* community.

I know all of our hearts and thoughts are with those who were affected by this terrible act.

Dr. Annette Trimbee,
President and Vice-Chancellor

I commend the Administration of this University, led by Dr Trimbee, for their amazing support of the lgbt* community today and most recently during Pride week!! It’s an honour to work in a workplace that supports diversity and shows support of the lgbt community and shows support in a time when hate has reared its ugly head. Thank you.
