Power Smart profiles UWinnipeg

Manitoba Hydro Power Smart profiles airing on Global TV from May 12 to June 23, 2011.

UWinnipeg’s sustainability efforts are being recognized in 30-second profiles now airing on Global TV featuring McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence and the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association Day Care.

Both are Silver LEED buildings with high efficiency heat recovery ventilation systems and low-flow faucets and showerheads.

In addition, the profiles highlight the geothermal heating and cooling of the south common areas in McFeetors Hall, and the use of natural light in the UWSA Day Care.

Manitoba Hydro worked closely with UWinnipeg to help identify opportunities to reduce our energy use, advised us on the best available technologies, and provided us with financial incentives through its Power Smart program.

As a result, UWinnipeg saved over $167,000 in capital costs and will continue to save over $25,000 on energy bills every year.

We’ve also reduced Green House Gas emissions by 600 tonnes each year – equivalent to taking 140 cars off the road for a full year.

Manitoba Hydro will return in September to film the Richardson College for the Environment and Science complex for another Power Smart profile.
