North West Company’s Edward S. Kennedy Earns 2011 Duff Roblin Award

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg pays tribute to Edward S. Kennedy, President and CEO of The North West Company as the 2011 recipient of The Duff Roblin Award. The award is being presented at the Duff Roblin Dinner on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Hotel Fort Garry.

This year’s award recipient North West Company President and CEO Edward Kennedy is an outstanding Manitoban who currently serves on several boards including St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, the Advisory Board of the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario) and the Advisory Board of the University of Alberta School of Retailing. Kennedy is the Chair of the 2011 Winnipeg United Way Campaign.

Outstanding Manitoban
Kennedy was born and raised in The Pas and attended high school as a boarding student at St. John’s-Ravenscourt in Winnipeg. He holds an Honours Degree in Business from the Ivey School at the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to joining North West, Edward practiced law briefly in Toronto and then worked in investment banking.

Proceeds from the Duff Roblin Dinner and gifts from individuals and organizations will go towards the Duff Roblin Scholars Fund. The fund provides Graduate Fellowships in Indigenous Governance and to the Master’s of Development Practice program at The University of Winnipeg and is set up to enhance educational opportunities for Manitoba’s Indigenous population and encourage Indigenous students to obtain advanced degrees.

Exemplary Citizenship
The inaugural Duff Roblin Award was named in honour of and presented to The Honourable Duff Roblin in 2007. This prestigious award recognizes a recipient’s qualities as an outstanding Manitoban, a patron of education, and someone who demonstrates exemplary citizenship and life-long commitment to his or her community. Past recipients include Tom Jackson (2008) and Kerry Hawkins (2009).
