WINNIPEG, MB – Scientist, scholar, poet, world renowned anthropologist Dr. Wade Davis, currently serving as The University of Winnipeg’s Visiting Professor and Senior Fellow in the Master’s in Development Practice – Indigenous Development program (MDP) will be giving two public lectures and launching a new book during his teaching week on campus from Monday, November 28 – Friday, December 2, 2011.

“It’s a privilege to have Dr. Davis sharing his notable research and international experiences with our students, faculty, and staff,” said UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy. “Sharing his knowledge and insight in the three public events in addition to his teaching responsibilities is another example of why it’s an exciting time to be at UWinnipeg for its academic excellence and accessibility.”
Davis will be active in the MDP program during his stay including a visit to Ka Ni Kanichihk Centre, meeting with the MDP Indigenous Advisory Circle, in addition to his teaching.
“I am looking forward to being a part of this unique program that incorporates a strong indigenous voice in its teaching,” expressed Davis. “UWinnipeg’s academic reputation in excellence and its
specialization in Indigenous programming create an interesting synergy
that I believe that we will all learn and benefit from.”
Davis is an Explorer-in-Residence for the National Geographic Society, and in recent years his work has taken him to East Africa, Borneo, Nepal, Peru, Polynesia, Tibet, Mali, Benin, Togo, New Guinea, Australia, Colombia, Vanuatu, Mongolia and the high Arctic of Nunuvut and Greenland.
Davis is a much sought lecturer who delivered the prestigious 2009 CBC Massey Lecture Series on The Wayfinders: Why Ancient Wisdom Matters in the Modern World.
