Lloyd Axworthy To Receive Two Honorary Degrees

WINNIPEG, MB – UWinnipeg President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy will be the recipient of two Honorary Degrees from Canadian universities within the next week.

Axworthy will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree today from the Wilfrid Laurier University and will receive an additional Honorary Doctor of Laws degree June 11 from the University of Calgary.

Wilfrid Laurier recognizes Axworthy for his “distinguished 27-year career in politics” and for his “strong interest in foreign affairs and a commitment to human rights, the protection of children and nuclear security.”

Calgary celebrates Axworthy for his “tremendous contributions, accomplishments and representation of our country,” for his “leadership as the major force behind the International Treaty to control landmines” and for his “respect for the benefits of education and encouragement of others to pursue higher education.”
