Jay Lyon Named Athlete of The Year

UWinnipeg student takes top honors for archery accomplishments

lyon-jayWINNIPEG, MB – The Manitoba Sportswriters Sportscasters Association last night named University of Winnipeg Kinesiology student Jay Lyon its Male Athlete of the Year for 2008. Lyon, who competed for Canada in archery at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Summer Games, won the award at the association’s annual awards dinner, held at the Delta Hotel.

Lyon placed 10th at the Olympics, which was the best-ever placing for a Canadian at an Olympic event. He beat out several worthy competitors for the title including Wesmen men’s volleyball player Ben Schellenberg and Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive tackle Doug Brown.
