Earth Day a week-long celebration at UWinnipeg

Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, and there’s no shortage of events on The University of Winnipeg campus to get involved with. Take a look at this week’s schedule, get involved, and help do your part to ensure a sustainable future for everybody!

Seed Bombs for Pride

Friday, April 20, 2018 | 1:00 – 4:00 pm | The Hive in Lockhart Hall

Join the Campus Sustainability Office and a team of fun-loving volunteers this Friday afternoon in The Hive and help them make sustainable schwag for UWinnipeg’s 2018 Pride Parade float. The team is aiming to make and package 2,000 seed bombs that will be handed out at the 2018 Pride Parade for folks to take home and add some colour to their yard. This will be a fun, crafty afternoon complete with free food. Drop in any time between 1:00 – 4:00 pm and help support UWinnipeg’s LGBTTQ*. Click here to RSVP.

ModeShift — A Festival of Human Scale Cities

Transportation impacts everything. ModeShift — A Festival of Human Scale Cities is a week long series of events and masterclasses that features invited guests from nearby and around the world. The goal is to inspire you to learn about and be a part of a positive future for Winnipeg. You can register for individual components or purchase an all-access pass. Pay-what-you-can pricing is available for students, not-for-profits, and interested individuals. All events are centrally located. The main conference (April 18 – 19) takes place in Bulman Centre, with workshops at The Hive and The Forks.

Downtown Earth Day Clean Up

Monday, April 23, 2018 | 1:15 – 4:00 pm | Rock on the front lawn

The Campus Sustainability Office is organizing a team of volunteers from UWinnipeg to help out at the Downtown Earth Day Clean Up. The event kicks off at Millennium Library at 2:00 pm, but the team is meeting on the front lawn at 1:15 pm to walk over together. Join them as they work to have a positive impact on the downtown urban environment.

Littoral Landscape at Gallery 1C03

Gallery 1C03’s Littoral Landscape will be open to the public from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on April 21 for Earth Day. Families are invited to paint or draw on stones that recall the ones artist Tracy Peters uses in the exhibition. Write a message to the land or the water, make a statement about protecting the environment, or draw a scene from nature that inspires you! Once completed, take your stone home and place it outdoors or gift it to someone.
