The University of Winnipeg is participating in the current Manitoba mission to China and Hong Kong this week with Dr. Lloyd Axworthy (President and Vice-Chancellor) and Dr. Neil Besner (Vice-President, Research, Recruitment and International) in attendance.

While in Shanghai, UWinnipeg will participate in The Manitoba Reception, hosted by Premier Greg Selinger, which includes meetings with UWinnipeg alumni, as well as attend meetings with key education officials in the Chinese government. The goal is to foster closer collaborations and reciprocal relationships that will open doors for students in both Manitoba and China.

On Thursday and Friday, Dr. Axworthy will deliver two keynote addresses in Hong Kong. The first, to the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, will raise the profile of UWinnipeg among a qualified group of students heading to Canada. Also on September 20th in Hong Kong, Dr. Axworthy and Dr. Charles Man Wing Tan, Chair of The University of Winnipeg Hong Kong Alumni Association will co-host The University of Winnipeg Hong Kong Alumni Reception. Special guest Premier Greg Selinger and approximately 50 UWinnipeg alumni in Hong Kong are expected to attend.

In his second keynote address, on September 21st at St. Paul’s College in Hong Kong, Dr. Axworthy will focus on the role of the United Nations and human rights in recognition of the International Day of Peace.
