Blue Dot Kick Off at UWinnipeg Dec14 – everyone welcome

Science ComplexWinnipeg Blue Dot is hosting a Kick-Off event for community, leaders, families and friends to come together to celebrate the Right to a Healthy Environment campaign in Winnipeg. Volunteers with the Winnipeg Blue Dot Movement, sponsored by the David Suzuki Foundation, invite the public to their kick-off event to show their support, celebrate and learn more about the Right to a Healthy Environment campaign in Winnipeg.

On Sunday, December 14th the kick off takes place at UWinnipeg’s Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex at 599 Portage Ave., from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. There is a team of more than 40 core volunteers working on this campaign and 400 Winnipeggers so far have  committed online to take action in their communities.

The Kick-Off event includes a diversity of speakers, performers, video and activities for the whole family. People will be asked to contribute their ideas and wishes for prioritizing the Right to a Healthy Environment and why it matters through a fun community led photo booth.

About the Blue Dot Movement

This growing movement of Canadians calls upon their local communities to pass municipal declarations respecting people’s right to live in a healthy environment. Community by community, this movement will inspire decision-makers across our provinces and territories to take notice.

With so many communities calling for action from all levels of government, the next step is to have our provinces follow suit and pass an environmental bills of rights. When seven out of 10 provinces representing more than 50 per cent of the Canadian population have recognized our right to a healthy environment we’ll turn toward the ultimate goal: amending the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Recognition in the Charter is the final step in protecting the right to clean air, fresh water and healthy food for all Canadians.
