February is recognized nationally as Black History month, a time to celebrate the struggles, achievements and future of Black Canadians. In the spirit of Black History month and the upcoming lecture series with Vincent Harding, the speechwriter for Martin Luther King Jr. to be held at The University of Winnipeg, several students have come together to work alongside the Faculty of History to organize two events.

The first event is an exciting celebration of the arts, shedding light on how African music has influenced many genres (jazz, hip- hop, reggae and the blues). The second event brings a closing to Mr. Harding’s lecture by allowing students to have a more intimate encounter with the influential Black members of today’s society. These events are open to students, staff and faculty at The University of Winnipeg, as well as to the greater community.
