Axworthy presents at national conference

Presidents' National Dialogue looks at change and improved public policy

WINNIPEG, MB – UWinnipeg President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy will be presenting at the Presidents’ National Dialogue at the University of Ottawa on Friday, October 23, 2009 on Aboriginal Affairs. Axworthy is one of five Presidents of Canada’s leading research universities that will join forces to present at the national conference to examine the role of the university in the development of public policy. James B. Steinberg, Deputy Secretary of State, United States Department of State is the keynote speaker.

Universities are known as centres of knowledge and expertise in public policy development. With their capacity for critical thought and independent research, universities have much to offer and can contribute significantly to an open and rigorous policy-making process in Canada. Topics to be discussed include the environment, health, foreign affairs, economy and Aboriginal Affairs.

The Presidents’ National Dialogue participants include Allan Rock, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of OttawaDavid Johnston, President University of Waterloo – Indira Samarasekera, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Alberta, and Luc Vinet Rector, Université de Montréal.
