2016 Leadership Symposium tackles change management

Join 125 leaders from across Manitoba for an interactive and thought-provoking day on the topic of “Adapting to the Changing Nature of Business,” and hear the latest research on Leadership and Change Management from the Conference Board of Canada, with a keynote address by Donna Burnett-Vachon, Associate Director.

Take in the featured lunchtime fireside chat between Paul Mahon, President & CEO, Great West Life and Jay Forbes, President & CEO, MTS, as well as some interesting panelists.

The 2016 Leadership Symposium is presented by The University of Winnipeg, The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and takes place Monday, February 29, 2016 in Convocation Hall, on UWinnipeg’s campus.

Session Highlights

Donna Burnett Vachon, Associate Director, Leadership and Human Resources Research will share highlights from The Conference Board of Canada’s recent research report, The Leadership Outlook: Leadership Driving Organizational Performance. This research focused on the key drivers of organizational leadership and examined the role of leadership in competitive organizational performance. This report introduces The Leadership Performance Index—a proprietary organizational assessment tool that is based primarily on the collective behaviours and activities of organizational leaders. The report also investigates leadership development strategies and practices used by Canadian organizations at different levels of the Index.

BACKGROUND

Donna Burnett Vachon – Associate Director, Leadership and Human Resources Research, The Conference Board of Canada

Donna Burnett Vachon is an Associate Director with the Leadership and Human Resources Research Division of the Conference Board of Canada.  Since joining the Board in October 2011, Donna has been actively involved in research and advisory assignments in the areas of leadership, organizational learning and talent development, organization design, change management, performance management and   succession management.

As the Associate Director overseeing the Leadership and Organization Development team, Donna leads all of the group’s ongoing core and custom research initiatives and custom advisory engagements.  Donna has recently completed major, national research projects in organizational leadership, organizational learning and talent development, high performance in the crown corporation sector, and enablers to the advancement of women leaders.  Donna has also recently led client advisory projects in the areas of internal governance,  organization review and design, change engagement strategy development, creation of a leadership development framework and of an enterprise-wide performance management framework as well as CEO and Board member evaluations.

Donna has over 18 years operational experience in Organization Development, Change Management, Talent Development and Human Resources Management.  Prior to joining the Board, Donna held senior positions in Organization Development and Change and Human Resources Management in industries including healthcare, high tech and manufacturing.

Donna holds a Master’s degree in Human Systems Intervention from Concordia University, a Bachelor of Science (Hon) degree in Psychology from Trent University, a post graduate diploma in Human Resources Management and certification as a Personal and Professional Coach.   She is a member of the OD Network, the Human Resources Professional Association and the Human Systems Intervention Network.

jay-forbes1Jay Forbes, CPA, FCA, President & Chief Executive Officer, MTS

Jay Forbes is the President & Chief Executive Officer for Manitoba Telecom Services, providing overall leadership and direction for the organization. Mr. Forbes is a proven business leader who brings a fresh strategic perspective to create immediate, lasting value for customers, employees and investors. Prior to joining MTS, he served as President & CEO of information services provider Teranet, President of Ingram Micro’s European, Middle Eastern and African operations and President & CEO Aliant, where he transformed the company into the second largest regional local exchange carrier in North America.

Mr. Forbes has extensive experience with public-company and not-for-profit boards. He has served on the Board of Aliant Inc., and Stratos Global Corporation.

Mr. Forbes holds a Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University, and is a fellow of the Chartered Accountants. He is a Top 40 Under 40 Award Recipient, and a Top 50 CEO Award Recipient.
