UWinnipeg Team Wins International Marketing Competition

2nd year in a row UWinnipeg student team wins top honour

marketing teamWINNIPEG, MB – A team of five University of Winnipeg students trumped 13 other teams competing from Germany, Switzerland, France, Colombia, Africa, the U.S. and Canada to win the  prestigious 2009 Manitoba International Marketing Competition (MIMC) on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel.

The team – lead by 4th year Business and Psychology major Tristan Friesen, included 3 other Business students, Terence Clinch, Hamza Tariq and James Finkbeiner – as well as Rhetoric and Communications major Michelle Choy. The competition, organized by the I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, involves an 8 week on-line simulation, a strategy statement and finally, presentations to the judges. The UWinnipeg team devoted hundreds of hours to the project, under the guidance of Peter Janciw as Faculty Advisor.

“This experience has been the most rewarding and challenging experience of my university career,” said Friesen. “As a team we learned the power of synergy, working together to build on each others strengths. The UWinnipeg Faculty of Business profs offer so much personal attention and accessibility, with this award we feel very fortunate to be giving back to the school that has given us so much.” The student team receive a victory trophy and share a $4,000 award.
