WINNIPEG, MB – A team of four University of Winnipeg Business & Administration students placed first in the prestigious 2008 Manitoba International Marketing Competition (MIMC), held this past weekend at the Delta Winnipeg Hotel.

The team – which consists of students Ping Liang, Justin Rodger, Fouad Saeidi and Mohammed Towhidul Islam – won the event, which featured 13 university teams from around the world, including teams from Singapore and Brazil. The competition, organized by the I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, focused on three key project elements: a computer simulation conducted over the Internet, a strategy statement and a series of presentations.

“Having a team from UWinnipeg place first in the MIMC is a credit to the hard work and dedication of the students and the faculty in the Department of Business & Administration,” said Michael Benarroch, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Business & Economics. “Our team’s achievement reflects the Faculty of Business & Economics dedication to the pursuit of excellence in business education. We are proud to have our students achievements recognized at this prestigious competition.”

This victory is the first for The University of Winnipeg since it began taking part in the competition in 1996. The University previously placed second on two occasions and third once.
