Winnipeg, Manitoba – The University of Winnipeg Foundation has received a donation of $20,000 in support of The Winnipeg Police Opportunity Scholarship in Memory of Injured and Fallen Officers. The funding originates from a Winnipeg Police Community Challenge Golf Tournament and a partnership with Boston Pizza including their annual Tip a Cop fundraiser.

Andrew Shefchyk, Director of Marketing, Boston Pizza, Enright Group presented a $20,000 cheque to Dr. Annette Trimbee, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Winnipeg, and Mr. Brian Daly, President and CEO of The University of Winnipeg Foundation at Leatherdale Hall. On behalf of The University of Winnipeg, we’d like to thank the Winnipeg Police Service and Boston Pizza for continuing to partner with us in our shared mission to alleviate poverty in Winnipeg by making education accessible for all. We are always impressed by their tireless commitment to our community, especially taking time out of their busy schedules to raise money for underprivileged students at UWinnipeg,” said Brian Daly.

The Winnipeg Police Opportunity Scholarship in Memory of Injured and Fallen Officers was established in 2011 by the Winnipeg Police to support educational opportunities for students from North End and Downtown Winnipeg high schools. These Scholarships are renewable annually, with the intention that students receive scholarship support throughout their University degree. Consideration is given to applicants who have made contribution to, or been involved with their school or community. To date, there have been 11 scholarship recipients each receiving up to $2,500 annually.

The University of Winnipeg Foundation is a registered and incorporated charitable public foundation dedicated to fundraising and asset stewardship in support of the University’s mission and vision.
