UWinnipeg Prof Making A Difference In Universal Primary Education

UWinnipeg Associate Professor Dr. Jan Stewart (Faculty of Education) is being recognized for her work in international development. She is one of eight Manitobans highlighted in a campaign by Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) for efforts towards achieving the United Nations’ eight Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

The “I am making a difference” campaign features Dr. Stewart and her research on MDG #2: Achieve Universal Primary Education.  She is passionate about achieving universal primary education and works with teachers to develop curricula — primarily in post-conflict situations such as Uganda and South Sudan — that address the psycho-social and educational needs of children. Watch the embedded video above to learn more about Dr. Stewart’s work on this topic.

“I appreciate the MCIC support and the recognition for the research and training that I do in Zimbabwe, South Sudan, and Uganda,” said Stewart.

MCIC is a coalition of organizations involved in international development. MCIC’s mission as a coordinating structure is to promote public awareness of international issues, to foster member interaction, and to administer funds for international development.
