UWinnipeg Hosts Human Rights Action Week

The University of Winnipeg and Global College present Human Rights Action Week from Feb. 19 – 23 culminating with the Human Rights & Social Justice conference at UWinnipeg Feb. 23 – 25, 2007. The week-long schedule of events offers opportunities to become engaged in human rights issues, learn how each of us can make a difference and participate in positive change on a local, and global, level.

The Society for Politics Students is hosting a benefit concert in support of the Human Rights and Social Justice Conference. All proceeds from the concert will be donated to Welcome Place, a refugee support service.

Keynote speaker: Stan McKay; moderator: Dr. Brian Rice; panelists: Bill Gillis, United Church of Canada; Mike DeGagne, Aboriginal Healing Foundation; Representative Indian Residential Schools Reconciliation Canada; and Dennis Morrison, Traditional Teacher. UWinnipeg Collegiate hosts representatives from Manitoba High Schools Human Justice Programs

Throughout the afternoon, students from Collegiate and from a number of Manitoba high school Social Justice programs will gather at UWinnipeg to develop a document on engaging youth in human rights issues for presentation at the Human Rights – Social Justice conference.

Bill Pace is Executive Director of the Wold Federalist Movement-Institute for Global Policy, a six decade old peace movement dedicated to promoting international democracy, global justice and the rule of the law.
