UWinnipeg embraces Indigenous knowledge

UWinnipeg has embraced the sharing of knowledge and understanding about Indigenous peoples’ culture by introducing the Indigenous Course Requirement (ICR) for all new UWinnipeg students, beginning in the fall of 2016. UWinnipeg’s Kevin Lamoureux, Associate Vice-President, Indigenous Affairs hosted a reception last night to celebrate this milestone for UWinnipeg and reconciliation. Those in attendance included UWinnipeg faculty and administration, students and many key community members and stakeholders that contributed to making the ICR a reality.

“UWinnipeg is proud to be a part of history and one of the first universities in Canada to adapt this student-led ICR initiative that reflects the spirit and commitment to reconciliation by all levels of the institution, administration, faculty, students and community partners,” said Lamoureux. “The ICR is a community effort to contribute to truth and reconciliation in Canada. It is about ensuring that we are able leave behind a better Canada for our children.”

Indigenization is one of UWinnipeg’s key strategies to contribute to an inclusive campus and safe campus for all of our students.
