UWinnipeg Alumni Association Call For 2016 Nominations

The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association is calling for nominations from the public for its annual naming of two Distinguished Alumni in 2016. Named at the Spring and Fall Convocations, the award honours alumni of The University of Winnipeg who have achieved great distinction through their contributions to the University and/or the local or global community. Nominations are accepted from anyone throughout the year, and are considered for two consecutive years.

“One of the most exciting things we get to do is honour our fellow alumni. Graduates of The University of Winnipeg have helped to shape our city and have left an indelible mark on the world,” said UWinnipeg Alumni Association President, Kevin Freedman. “This is our chance to recognize unique accomplishments and re-connect with some amazing former students.”

The 2015 Award winners were Gilles Paquin, who has been a leader in the Winnipeg arts community for 40 years; and JoAnne Buth, who has long been a passionate public servant, leader, and advocate for Canada’s agriculture sector.

Previous recipients of the award include James Wilson, Treaty Commissioner for the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba; Stefano Grande, Executive Director for the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ; Ida Albo, hotelier, entrepreneur, and philanthropist; former mayor Susan Thompson; and filmmaker Guy Maddin.

Nominations should include:

I.      A nomination form

II.   A letter of support stating the reasons for making the nomination and speaking to the nominee’s suitability for the award.

Distinguished Alumni nominations are due Monday, February 29, 2015.
