Soccer teams set to kick off second season in CIS

Wesmen 2012-13The University of Winnipeg Wesmen men’s and women’s soccer teams are getting ready to kick off their second season in the CIS.

The men’s team will begin regular season play in Saskatoon on Saturday, August 31st against the Saskatchewan Huskies. The women’s team will start their season on home turf against the Regina Cougars on Friday, September 6th at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.

The men’s team will play a total of 15 Canada West regular season matches (eight away, seven home). After their opening match in Saskatoon, Winnipeg will play four consecutive matches at home starting with two matches against Mt.Royal (September 6-7) followed by single matches against Fraser Valley and Victoria (September 12-13). Winnipeg will end September with three road matches against UNBC (September 20) followed by two matches in Calgary against the Dinos (September 28-29).

Winnipeg will start the month of October at home with a pair of matches (October 4-5) against Lethbridge. The team will travel west to play four matches starting in British Columbia on Oct 11 against UBC and the following day in Langley to face Trinity Western. Winnipeg closes out their regular season road schedule in Edmonton (October 19-20) against the Golden Bears before closing out their home schedule on October 26 against the Saskatchewan Huskies.

2013 Men’s Soccer Schedule

The women’s team will play a total of 12 Canada West regular season matches (six home, six away). After facing Regina, Winnipeg will play host to the Saskatchewan Huskies the following day (September 7th). The team will travel to Alberta for two matches (September 14th in Lethbridge and September 15th in Calgary. On Saturday, September 21st Winnipeg will challenge their cross-town rivals the Manitoba Bisons in the first ever soccer portion of the Annual Duckworth Challenge. The match begins at 6:00 p.m. at the U of M. The team will wrap up the month at home against Mt.Royal on September 28th followed by a match against Alberta the following afternoon.

Winnipeg will begin October with three straight road matches, October 4th against Trinity Western, October 5th against UBC and October 13th against University of Northern British Columbia. The Wesmen will wrap up their regular season schedule at home against Fraser Valley (October 18) and Victoria (October 19).
