Searching for Hope in Syria – event cancelled

The event in Winnipeg has been cancelled due to the worsening situation in Aleppo.  Over the last 48 hours they have lost 5 members of their team.  As the ‘White Helmets’ are key to attempts to evacuate the city, their presence on the ground is essential and it is testament to their bravery that they are now returning to oversee the evacuation.

It is estimated that more than 470,000 civilians have died in the Syrian civil war, and those numbers include more than 10,000 children. The United Nations says many more are subjected to “unspeakable” suffering. As the conflict in Syria worsens, ordinary people are paying the highest price. More than 50 bombs and mortars land on some neighbourhoods in Syria every day. When the bombs rain down, Syrian Civil Defense, now known as the ‘White Helmets’ rush in.

UWinnipeg’s Global College encourages the University community to attend screenings of the documentary Searching for Hope in Syria: In conversation with the White Helmets on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. There are two screenings at 2:30 PM and at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free but you must register below.
