Recycle batteries and cellphones on campus

Need to toss some old electronics after receiving some new gadgets over the holidays? The University of Winnipeg offers a battery and cell phone recycling program on campus: all students, faculty, staff and members of the community can bring any cell phones and batteries weighing less than 5 kg to the University for recycling.

Battery and cell phone recycling boxes can be found in most photocopy/mail rooms as well as at the InfoBooth, the UWSA offices, and the front security desk in the Science Complex. There are over 40 drop-off locations throughout campus.

All rechargeable batteries (including cell phone batteries) and Lithium Primary batteries should be placed in the bags provided. All other batteries (Alkaline, Ni-MH, Ni-Cd) and cell phones (with batteries removed) can be placed directly into bins. (What batteries do I have?)

Participation in the program helps reduce hazardous waste and toxic materials that too often end up in our landfills, and helps turn precious resources into new products. To learn more about the program and other drop-off locations throughout the province, visit: www.call2recycle.ca
