A power outage that darkened The University of Winnipeg’s west campus Wednesday evening — affecting McFeetors Hall residence, the UWSA daycare, and Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex — resulted in a late-night pizza party for approximately 100 UWinnipeg students.

While Manitoba Hydro and McCain Electirc crews worked to restore power, Diversity Food Services staff remained on duty and campus housing staff brought affected students to Riddell Hall to await resolution. Pizza and salads were sent over by Garbonzo’s Pizza Pub to feed the hungry group.

Power was restored to all three campus buildings at approximately 11:00 p.m., enabling all students to return to their dormitories overnight.

“On behalf of the UWinnipeg community, I’d like to express sincere appreciation to everyone who worked so hard to deal with this evening’s disruption and to look out for our students’ well being,” said UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Lloyd Axworthy. “Thank you to our dedicated campus living and physical plant staff, and security personnel for their efforts, as well as to the faculty who assisted, and our partners at Garbonzo’s for helping to feed our students while they dealing with this challenging situation. The way everyone came together tonight in support of students is a perfect example of  the spirit that helps define our campus community.”
