UWinnipeg’s Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) was pleased to welcome Paul Mahon, President and CEO of Great-West Life to campus last week for a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Sylvie Albert, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

In a wide-ranging conversation, Mahon spoke about the rise of digitization across Canada, including within his own company, which now employs hundreds of people in digital jobs. According to Mahon, Manitoba has the potential to be an innovation hub, particularly if it leverages the talents emerging from its post-secondary institutions.

Mahon also shared insights from his own career with the students in attendance, including tips on how to move up the corporate ladder. His advice: patience (Mahon has been associated with Great-West Life for 30 years), curiosity, timing, and a willingness to step up to difficult projects are all necessary to become a CEO.
