Hilary Druxman “key”charm

Just in time for Mother’s Day, University of Winnipeg Collegiate grad and renowned Winnipeg jewelry designer Hilary Druxman has created a new one-of-a-kind charm in support of the Opportunity Fund. The design is a simple key, signifying that “Education is Key”, a companion charm to last year’s Druxman-designed keyhole necklace.

The cost of each sterling silver charm is an affordable $10 and will be  available at UWinnipeg’s Bookstore, (in stock first week of May) located in the AnX at 491 Portage Avenue, at Druxman’s store at suite 1-258 McDermot Avenue or at www.hilarydruxman.com.

All net proceeds go towards the Opportunity Fund, which was created in 2007 specifically to support inner-city, Indigenous, new Canadian and refugee students. .

BACKGROUND:

The University of Winnipeg believes in access.  The goal of our Opportunity Fund is to ensure that everyone, regardless of economic circumstances, has access to a university education.  Since 2007 the University has awarded more than 1,100 Opportunity Fund Fast-Track Bursaries and more than 150 student-recipients have already graduated.

In 2012 the University expanded the Opportunity Fund and became the first post-secondary institution in Canada to waive tuition for youth raised in the child welfare system.  There are more than 9,500 children and youth in care in Manitoba, and very few are able to pursue post-secondary education.  The Opportunity Fund Tuition Waiver Program says to young people who have faced challenges that their educational dreams matter and we believe in them.

The Druxman key charm and the original keyhole necklace will also be available for purchase at UWinnipeg’s I Heart UWinnipeg Dinner, a fundraiser for the Opportunity Fund, on May 23, 2013. Find out more at:
