Manitoba Chartered Accountants Provide Generous Gift

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is honoured to accept a $300,000 gift from the Manitoba Chartered Accountants Foundation. The funds will go toward annual student scholarships and awards as well as the promotion of excellence in research and teaching in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Enhance the Quality of Education
“The CA Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of accounting education in Manitoba,” said Ken Phernambucq, Chair of the Manitoba Chartered Accountants Foundation. “We believe that supporting programming – awards, scholarships and the accounting faculty – accurately reflects that mandate.”

The CA profession will provide $30,000 annually for a 10-year term as part of the arrangement. The funds will help students enter programs specific to the Faculty of Business and Economics.

“The profession’s generous contribution will recognize and support individuals on their educational path for years to come,” said Michael Benarroch, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. “Synergies between our faculty and the profession are being strengthened as many of our graduates eventually become their members.”

Help Students Pursue Education
The funding will help students pursue education that is directly related to pursuing a career as a Chartered Accountant. Creating opportunities for students to excel in areas of business leadership is a natural way for CA Manitoba to demonstrate their support. The funding will also help promote excellence in the teaching and research, strengthening the ability of the Faculty of Business and Economics to provide high quality business education.

The Faculty of Business and Economics offers students a diverse array of academic programs, including accounting, human resources management, marketing, international business and finance. The completion of the University of Winnipeg’s 460 Portage Project (The Buhler Centre) will provide the Faculty of Business and Economics a new home this fall.
