Maclean’s Survey: UWinnipeg 4th in Canada for Reputation

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is once again in 4th place in Canada among primarily undergraduate universities for overall reputation, according to the 2012 Annual Maclean’s Ranking of Canadian Universities which was released this morning. UWinnipeg also placed in the Top 5 for percentage of budget that is devoted to student services, and is climbing as an institution that attracts science research grants (from 11th place in 2010 to 6th place in 2012.)

“It is extremely gratifying to remain in the Top 5 in Canada in terms of our overall reputation, because Maclean’s magazine bases that on surveys with many different sources – high school guidance counsellors, heads of organizations, chief executive officers and recruiters from across the country, asking for their views on quality and innovation at Canadian universities,” said Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President and Vice-Chancellor, UWinnipeg. “It is also evident that since we built one of the most innovative science complexes in Canada – the Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, which opened in September 2011, we are increasingly known as a place for scientific research on critically important issues such as production of medical isotopes.”

UWinnipeg is also in the Top 5 for devoting operating funds to provide quality student services. The Maclean’s survey comes on the heels of the Globe & Mail Canadian University Report 2013, released on October 23, 2012, which ranked UWinnipeg among Canada’s best for diversity, environmental commitment, small class sizes and healthy food on campus.

“What I value most about attending UWinnipeg is the quality of education I have received. Our professors challenge us to question ideas, evaluate multiple perspectives, and make connections. They also care about us,” said Megan Dooley, in her 5th year of an Integrated Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts program. “They want us to excel and they go to tremendous lengths to support us. The intellectually stimulating experiences and sense of community that UWinnipeg cultivates creates a unique learning environment of which I am proud to be a part.”
