Linking Students & Landlords Eases Strain: UWinnipeg Launches Off-Campus Housing Registry ’06

On May 1, 2006, the Department of Housing and Student Life at The University of Winnipeg will once again launch its highly successful Off-Campus Housing Registry for the 2006 season.

Record numbers of students and growing business and residential activity in Winnipeg’s downtown, can make it difficult for students to secure suitable housing. To augment its 137-space resident housing program, The University of Winnipeg developed its Off-Campus Housing Registry to provide students with a wealth of safe and secure housing options. To accommodate the diverse University population, the Housing Registry provides services with attention towards international students, mature students, and others with particular needs.

The Registry links students with landlords looking to lease and/or sublet in the downtown area. Properties are inspected by the University’s Housing & Student Life department and, if approved, are listed online at http://housing.uwinnipeg.ca. The for-fee listings remain in the registry for a period of two weeks or until the vacancy has been filled. Students can access the Registry online and at key locations throughout the campus.

Interested landlords are encouraged to contact the Off-Campus Housing Coordinator Harsh V. Dubey to schedule an appointment for their property to be inspected (telephone: 204.786.9139 or email h.dubey@uwinnipeg.ca).
