Global College joins UN campaign to end violence against women

Winnipeg is joining neighbourhoods around the world to unite to end violence against women.

The United Nations launched a 16-day campaign starting today, November 26, the international day for the elimination of gender-based violence in all its forms, from child marriage, to femicide, from attacks on women human rights defenders to violations of women’s rights to land and access to productive resources. The campaign ends on Dec. 10, which is International Human Rights Day.

On Wednesday, November 26, a forum with the theme From Peace in the World to Peace in the Home  takes place at the University of Winnipeg in Room 2M70 (2nd floor, Manitoba Hall, 515 Portage Avenue).

The event is sponsored by the Institute for International Women’s Rights in Manitoba and UWinnipeg’s Global College. Speakers include Darcia Senft talking about about the Charter of Compassion and the Compassion Games, and Ellen Judd, Roxana Obasi, and Gertrude Hambira speaking of local and global challenges for women facing gender-based violence. The doors open Wednesday at 6:30 p.m
