Fundraising dinner raises thousands for typhoon survivors

A fundraising dinner and silent auction held on November 30th at UWinnipeg to assist victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines raised $7956.26.

In addition to the $ 7956.26 Albert El Tassi of Peerless Garments donated $5000 to the Red Cross, bringing the final total to be matched by the federal government to $25,912.52.

Special thanks to organizing partners  – Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA), Canadian Muslim Leadership Institute (CMLI), Migrante-MB, Canadian Muslim Women’s Institute, the University of Winnipeg Students’ Association (UWSA), Diversity Food Services, in cooperation with the Philippines-Canadian Centre of Manitoba.

All food, entertainment, silent auction prizes, the venue, and related support were generously donated so that all proceeds went to the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts.
