Free public lecture – Phil Fontaine

philfontaineWINNIPEG, MB – Media and the public are invited to attend a free lecture at The University of Winnipeg by Dr. Phil Fontaine, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, on January 22nd.

Fontaine will reflect on the changes he has witnessed in his years as a local, regional, national and international Indigenous leader.  A look back, and a look forward.

WHEN:  Wednesday, January 22, 2014

12:30 to 1:30 pm

WHERE: Convocation Hall

2nd floor, Wesley Hall

515 Portage Avenue

An advocate for human rights and a survivor of residential school abuse, one of Fontaine’s crowning achievements is the residential schools settlement. At $5.6 billion in individual compensation, Fontaine negotiated the largest settlement in Canadian history – for the largest human rights violation in Canadian history – arising out of the 150-year Indian residential school tragedy. Dr. Fontaine is also Chair of The University of Winnipeg’s Indigenous Advisory Circle.

Fontaine’s lecture will be followed by an audience Question and Answer period.
