The year 2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War and the 135th anniversary of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment.

To commemorate both of these milestones, The University of Winnipeg Archives, in conjunction with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, will unveil the exhibit For King and CountryThe Tradition of Citizen-Soldiers in Service to Canada on Friday, November 9 at 12:30 pm in The University of Winnipeg Archives at 5C02 (5th Floor, Centennial Hall).

For King and Country will honour those men affiliated with the University’s founding colleges — Manitoba and Wesley College — who fought in the First World War as members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force’s 8th Canadian Battalion, 90th Winnipeg Rifles, and other affiliated regimental battalions.

President Emeritus of the University of Manitoba and Honorary Colonel of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Dr. Emőke Szathmáry, will speak about the storied history of the Rifles and the brave college men who put their lives on the line “For King and Country.”

This event is free and open to everyone.
