When Roberto Carlos Alves attended Open House 2013 at The University of Winnipeg, he didn’t know if he should bother filling out the VIP card that offered the chance to win a $5,000 tuition credit.  “What is the possibility that I will win?” questioned the recent graduate of Garden City Collegiate Institute.  Alves found out the answer when he recently received the phone call from UWinnipeg congratulating him on winning the prize.

Alves has just begun classes in calculus, physics, and chemistry in pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree from UWinnipeg. He is looking forward to laying the foundation for his desired career in biomedical engineering. The award was a welcome surprise for the student.  “Winning $5,000 does take the financial stress away.  It lets me focus more on school and concentrate on my studies,” said Alves.

The Student Recruitment Office at UWinnipeg offers the annual tuition credit award of $5,000 to one prospective student who attends and requests information from a UWinnipeg event —   such as Open House, Future Student Night, or a high school presentation. The winning student must be enrolled and registered in classes at UWinnipeg directly out of high school.
