Environmental Education Conference on Campus

Conference brings together representatives from across Canada

WINNIPEG, MB – The University of Winnipeg is playing host to the 7th Annual CCEN / CUESN Environmental Education Conference from June 1-2, 2009 in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, 515 Portage Ave. Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, UWinnipeg President & Vice-Chancellor will present on Tuesday, June 2 at 9:00 am.

This conference brings together representatives from the Canadian College Environmental Network, the Canadian University Environmental Science Network and other interested environmental educators to discuss the status of post-secondary environmental education in Canada.

Environmental Education
This year’s theme Environmental Education: Cradle to Cradle – a Manitoba Perspective includes keynote speaker Dr. Tom Puk, Professor of Ecological Consciousness, Faculty of Education, Lakehead University. He kickstarts the event with his presentation on Lifelong Ecological Consciousness and How to Incorporate it into our Educational Systems on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 9:15 am.

A Corporate Approach
The conference also includes seminars on: A Corporate Approach to Sustainability; Building a Sustainable Management System; Developing Local Leadership through Hands-On Learning;  Views on Teaching about, for, and in the Environment; Teaching about Biodiversity in First Nations Classrooms and panel discussions, field tours and networking.

The conference is presented by Assiniboine Community College, Brandon University, University College of the North, University of Manitoba and The University of Winnipeg.
