Business savvy students gather in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, MB –More than 250 business students from across Canada are gathering in Winnipeg from March 8 to 12 to network and share knowledge in their annual Roundtable Conference. It is the first time a Canadian Association of Business Students’ (CABS) Roundtable Conference is being held in Winnipeg, in partnership with The University of Winnipeg’s Business Administration Student Association (BASA). CABS is a non-profit organization that represents over 70,000 business students from over 30 business schools across Canada.

UWinnipeg student Samantha Smolarski is one of the conference organizers. Now in her 4th year of Business Administration with a focus on marketing and human resources, she says organizing a national conference “is a real learning experience in time management and planning ahead.”

Students will attend a variety of sessions ranging from financial leadership and career planning to industry and entrepreneurship. Smolarski says a number of UWinnipeg alumni are involved as moderators, for example, Stefano Grande, currently the Executive Director of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, is leading a panel on urban renewal.  “It is really great that these business leaders are giving back,” says Smolarski.

The Roundtable Conference title sponsor is Chartered Professional Accountants (Manitoba). Other sponsors include:   Red River Mutual Fund; Enterprise Holdings; UWinnipeg Faculty of Business & Economics; Business Administration Student Association (BASA); Bison Transport; Manitoba Hydro; and Entrepreneurship Manitoba. Events take place at the Radisson Hotel and on UWinnipeg’s campus.
