At the recent Aurora Family graduation celebration in June, UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy was awarded the inaugural Aurora Family Therapy Key to the Centre. This award recognizes a community member who has enhanced the life, health and vitality of the Aurora Family Therapy Centre.

“It is fitting that Dr. Axworthy is the recipient of our first Key to the Centre Award,” said John Smyth, Aurora Executive Director.  “He has contributed to the life of the University and to the downtown community. He has been very supportive of Aurora  and the important services that we provide to the University and the greater community. Dr. Axworthy has been dedicated to the people of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and the International community.”

The award criteria specify an individual who has a commitment to the broader community which Aurora is a part: this may be the University, the neighbourhood, the therapy community, and/or society as a whole.

There will be a $ 2,500.00 donation in Axworthy’s name to the Ana Grace Marquez-Greene Memorial Bursary. Ana was one of the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy in December 2012. Ana’s mother was previously a staff member at Aurora.

UWinnipeg’s partnership with the Aurora Family Therapy Centre is a notable program of educating and training skilled family therapists. The Centre is committed to promoting interpersonal and personal well-being through the provision of family therapy that is accessible to all, and to providing a venue for the clinical training of marriage and family therapists, with the overall intent of contributing to the promotion of healthy relationships and healthy community. Aurora Family Therapy Centre offers therapy to families, couples and individuals on an ability-to-pay basis. We strive to be culturally sensitive, inclusive and accessible.
