The University of Winnipeg offers sincere congratulations to alumna Katherena Vermette, who this weekend won several prestigious literary awards.

Her novel The Break, published by House of Anansi Press, won the McNally Robinson Book of the Year at the 29th annual Manitoba Book Awards, also winning the Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction as well as the Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award. Vermette graduated from UWinnipeg in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.

As UWinnipeg celebrates its 50th anniversary, Vermette is one of the many talented graduates we are profiling.  Read more about her here.

Interestingly, both Margaret Laurence and Carol Shields also have deep ties to UWinnipeg and are profiled in our 50th anniversary gallery.
